About the Society

Rooted in villages, working for fair markets

Consumer awareness means knowing what you are buying, what it should cost, and what to do when something goes wrong. Since unchecked exploitation was common in rural India for decades, we exist to close that awareness gap — field by field, family by family.

Protection for Consumers

Before the 1970s, adulteration and unfair pricing went largely unchecked. A national consumer movement — and the laws that followed — changed that story, and we carry the work forward at village level.

Community Awareness

Awareness is what lets a buyer make the right call. We run door-to-door and group sessions so families understand pricing, quality marks and where to complain.

Why Protection Matters

"Caveat emptor" is over — today the consumer is king. With complaint forums, consumer courts and digital tools, exploitation has somewhere to be reported.

Rights to the Consumer

Six rights every household should know

Protection against hazardous goods, freedom from unfair trade practice, the right to redressal, and the right to consumer education form the backbone of what we teach in the field.

The Need for Protection

Rural consumers are widely spread, often under-informed, and exposed to cartels and inflated pricing that maximise profit at their expense.

Methods of Protection

Self-regulation by sellers, enforcement through government legislation, and voluntary community organisation all work together to guard consumer interests.

Government's Role

National legislation sets the minimum floor for safety, fair pricing and redress, backed by the machinery needed to enforce it.

Legal Backbone

Laws that keep the field fair

Over decades, Parliament has passed a set of laws that give consumer protection real teeth. Field volunteers are trained to recognise when one of these applies.
